How Baccarat Is Played

April 15th, 2008 · No Comments

A game of Baccarat begins by the dealer giving out two cards for the player hand and two cards for the bank hand. A beginning hand with a combined value of either 8 or 9 is called a “natural hand. When one or both of the Baccarat players gets a natural, he or she has to show it to the rest of the table and that particular round of the game is over. If neither player gets a natural, the game goes on with the player hand being played first followed by the banker hand.

There are some other rules that apply. If the player hand comes to a total of 6 or more, the player must stand with those cards only. However, if the player hand comes out to 5 or less, the player must then draw one more card.

For the banker’s part, if his or her cards come out to 7 or more, then her or she must stand with those cards only. If the banker’s cards total 0, 1, or 2, then he or she has to draw a card. However, if the banker’s cards come out to 3, 4, 5, or 6, he or she can only draw a new card if the player previously drew one.
